Seven tourists were hospitalized in Fiji after drinking piña coladas at a luxury resort but were not poisoned by tainted alcohol, according to Fiji's tourism minister, Viliame Gavoka. A toxicology report found no evidence of illicit substances or methanol in the drinks, clearing concerns of alcohol poisoning.

The tourists, including one American, four Australians, and two others, experienced nausea, vomiting, and neurological symptoms but have since fully recovered. The incident, which occurred at the Warwick Fiji resort near Sigatoka, drew comparisons to a tragic event in Laos where tainted alcohol containing methanol caused six deaths. However, officials confirmed that methanol or other illicit substances were not involved in the Fiji case, and the cause of the illness remains under investigation.
