Hi all,

I’m planning a 3-week trip to Madagascar and looking for advice on the best national parks to visit. I’m especially interested in nature, wildlife, and unique landscapes — but I’d like to avoid expensive, pre-arranged tours.

I’m more of a budget traveler and prefer local guides or doing things independently when possible. What parks would you recommend that are worth the effort and still affordable? Any tips on getting there, finding local guides, or where to stay would also be super helpful.

Thanks so much in advance!
Sam

Hi Sam,

For budget-friendly parks with great wildlife and landscapes, check out Andasibe-Mantadia (easy access, lemurs), Ranomafana (rainforest), Ankarafantsika (birdwatching), and Isalo (canyons). Use local taxi-brousse for transport and hire guides directly at park entrances to save money. Stay in guesthouses nearby to keep costs low. If you want, I can share contacts for reliable local guides.

Enjoy your trip!

Hi Sam, Madagascar has indeed the best parks when it comes to to wildlife and nature. And personally i'll recommand Isalo, Anja reserve, Lemure park (Tana)... You can go with a private guide or take guides once on site but I think the best is to book a private guide certified driver who can accompany you along the way and in the parks, it might be quite hard to find one , I suggest you reach out to MadaAssist to book one on line, you can also book your accomodation with them, they can organise everything and will respect your budget.

Thank you guys! I tried different options and the team from MadaAssist.com turned out to be super helpful, thank you for the hint! I got the taxi brousse with them since I had no clue how to reach the taxi brousse companies, and we also got a private driver with them, nice one!
