What least visited Japanese prefecture should you visit?

I visited Hirugano for a few days and I loved it. But then I was forced to follow my brother to Nagoya for a few days and I hated it. Too big, too much going on. I dislike cities. And now I am forced to go to Tokyo for a few days. But I want back to the countryside. Away from places that are aimed at tourists. I am thinking of going to one of the prefectures with the least tourists that aren't to south or north. What do you recommend?

I think it is easier to mention the most visited places and base your itinerary on that. Japan seems very popular now and from many accounts I read online, most tourists stick to Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. That pretty much leaves the rest of the country. I would first think about what you are interested in and what you would like to see. It also depends on the season and what climate you prefer.

Kyushu is a personal favorite for me. Anywhere on the north coast (ie. the Japan Sea side) is less populated. And then the you have the north of Japan, Tohoku and of course Hokkaido. The islands off of Tokyo make for interesting trips and you can reach them by ferry. As I said it really depends on your interests.
