“I urge you to travel. As far and as much as possible.

Work ridiculous shifts to save your money. Go without the latest iPhone. Throw yourself out of your comfort zone. Find out how other people live and realize that the world is a much bigger place than the town you live in.

And when you come home, home may still be the same. And yes, you may go back to the same old job, but something in you will have changed.

And trust me, that changes everything.”

When people travel, they often sacrifice different aspects of their lives to make their trips possible. Here are some common sacrifices people make to travel:

  1. Financial sacrifices: Traveling can be expensive, and many people have to save money and cut back on expenses to afford their trips. This may mean cutting back on eating out, entertainment, or other luxury expenses.
  2. Time sacrifices: People often have to take time off work or school to travel. This may mean using up vacation time or taking unpaid leave, which can impact their finances and work schedules.
  3. Social sacrifices: Traveling may mean missing out on significant social events such as birthdays, weddings, and other family or friend gatherings. It can also mean leaving behind friends, family, or significant others for an extended period.
  4. Comfort sacrifices: When traveling, people may have to give up some comforts of home such as comfortable beds, air conditioning, and home-cooked meals. This is especially true for backpackers and budget travelers who often have to stay in hostels, take overnight buses or trains, and eat street food.
  5. Career sacrifices: Travelling for an extended period can impact people's career progression, especially if they have to take a significant amount of time off work. This may mean missing out on promotions, training opportunities, or networking events.
Of course, not all travelers have to make all of these sacrifices, and some may not consider them sacrifices at all. The level of sacrifice depends on personal circumstances and priorities.
