Hello, we are a family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers and are thinking about travelling to indonesia in July. Since we do not have much time the idea was to see Bali (Ubud, a bit of the culture, some of the beaches, maybe Gili Islands). I was in Bali 25 years ago, But we heard that Bali is extremely packed with tourists these days and that there is a garbage problem at the beaches. Our question is if Lombok could be a good (or better?) alternative.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

The garbage problem is worse during the rainy season (December-February), so July should be fine. The beaches are cleaned daily in the south of Bali.

Lombok is less crowded. It just depends on what you want to do during your stay.

Beaches in Cuta Bali are not white powder sand as in Thailand, but they are ok. Other part of Bali is also ok. In Lombok there is less tourist, so less tourist infrastruture. Cuta Lombok have nece beaches around reachable by motorbike. But with familly I would reconsider Gilli.
